Sundays. Sitting in my bed, under my favorite teal blanket,
all snuggled and warm. This is my kind of Sunday. Family weekend just ended,
and it reminded me how much I appreciate them. Even though their gone, today will be fun filled
with bucket loads of homework and Sunday football! Football makes all things
better. So does food. Food, football, and my brand new 49er hoodie all add up
to the perfect Sunday.
Back to the homework part…So on the 27th, my
class was given a piece of writing called “Writing a Life” by Katherine Bomer.
It talked about how revision is healthy when it comes to writing. In my WID, I talked
about how stubborn when dealing with revisions. I hate changing my original
ideas. I feel like I came up with the stuff I did for a reason, and why should
I get rid of my originality. See, I told you I’m stubborn.
Now that I read the piece by Bomer again it makes me wonder
a little more about revision. Yea, I like to keep my original ideas but my
original ideas can sometimes be bland. Revision doesn’t necessarily mean I have
to change my idea entirely but I can continue on with it – run with it. I can
create new things from my original idea, go in detail, or just get more
creative. Rereading this piece my Bomer has kind of allowed me to be more open
with revision…Now I don’t mean that it’ll be easy, but I definitely want to try
it more often. I want to start getting feedback from other people with my
writings. I think advice and revision can only make my writing better. Couldn’t
hurt.
49ers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes when I do stuff the first time, I don't want to change it. But it's good to change or revise. I'm just lazy at points. HA! But this got me thinking more about me taking the time to revise and see how things can get BETTER, not worse, hopefully. I like the fact that you are enjoying your Sundays though!
ReplyDeleteI'm in Lacy's other class btw.
Kelsey, this was such a great post. I related to literally everything you said. I too did my blog post this week on this piece by Katherine Bomer and it completely made me more open about revision as well. I agree with you that revision can only make a person's writing better. I use to really dread revision, but after reading this passage I totally see revision in a new light just as you do. Also, I really liked how you started your blog. It was kind of a detachment from the actual point of your blog and it really drew me in. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI think it's cool that you blog about your sundays and make your blog your own. My Sunday's are a lot like yours by the way! When I write my papers I have to do a lot of revision because I feel that makes the paper seem better. If there is a lot of errors then it sort of seems like I didn't spend a lot of time on it.
ReplyDeletecool blog!
First off, hell yea I pretty much agree completely with your first paragraph. I love watching panthers games each weekend, well, really anyone but that's who I pull for. Anywho, I personally am not really much of a revisor because I typically have confidence in whatever it is I did or wrote after doing or writting it so I don't usually revise. But, after this WID I changed my view on revising but, I probably still won't revise much. Good post.
ReplyDeleteI always love your posts. Personally I dont think youshould change anything because I feel like you are just so creative to begin with. in example: your pencil comarison. hahaha I really enjoy how relatable your are. I am very comfortable reading your writing. You are very personable! :)
ReplyDeleteThis was a great post and I can relate to it because i was doing the exact same thing on Sunday. Mine wasn't as good though because of the Panthers game, but i don't need to get into that. Its good that you are able to go back and change things. After each revision, it just gets better.
ReplyDeleteWell first of all, let's go Giants! Whoo. Anyways, revision bugs me a little too because I feel like if I have to correct one thing, I have to correct my whole paper.
ReplyDeleteHey Kelsey,
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to what your saying. Whenever I write lyrics, I'm constantly tearing pages out and balling them up but I can never seem to throw them away. After like 5x revisions I still have everything even from the first. Then I find myself rummaging through all the other works to find another idea I may have needed to complete my final piece. Revision is never a bad thing, well it can lol, but it can be used for the good of your work.
For starters, I love Sunday football too! It's a great way to end the weekend! I definitely agree with you on what you said about revision! I absolutely hate it! I don't like having to revise my own papers because I wrote what i wrote the first time for a reason. I don't like having to go back a million times and changing things. I also don't like revising other people's papers because I don't want to hurt their feelings and make them think they did a bad job.
ReplyDeleteHmmm... your post may be the first moment that I have considered Sunday football a hopeful event :)
